I carry a pair of rose-colored glasses, just in case...
The day I discovered that I was destined to become an artist was when I was three and stumbled upon my mother’s lipstick in the bathroom. Its rich red hues fascinated me and I eagerly took to applying it to every surface I saw, including myself. It was also at this moment that my mother knew that I would never be a make-up artist nor take center stage as a pageant queen.
Color and its power always captivated me in the way it plays with our emotions. Those feelings, paired with an obsession to engage in all mediums of craft prepped me for a career as a designer and artist. My first medium of choice was photography and my images documented life as I saw it, freezing a moment in time for future reflection. I use these images to find subject matter for my paintings. In that, my work in paint reflects my experiences while allowing me to add an editorial message to evoke conversation.
My work documents my life and times, living amongst cultures so common and so foreign. It records the people I have met and who have left their mark on me, like that bit of red lipstick I can’t wipe away. People so diverse and stimulating that they seem to have already been vibrant colors dancing around on a grand canvas.

Megan Ryan carries a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Art from Michigan State University with concentrations in painting and photography.
She currently spends her time as a photographer, painter, and product designer living and working in the DC metro area. Her artwork has been exhibited in the US, Italy, and Germany, along with luxury goods sold globally through her work in the luxury home furnishings industry and as a design consultant to artisans in West Africa. Mrs. Ryan's current work is a reflection of her experiences abroad. She is available for commissions and consultancies in product development and can be reached at meglynn.ryan@gmail.com
